WHY THIS WORK MATTERS TO ME
I knew why it mattered.
I still struggled to start.
A coach. A father. A husband.A client trying to find the time.
In 2009, my brother, Army Sgt. Elijah John Miles Rao, was killed while serving in Afghanistan. Loss changed our family. It also changed the work I wanted to do.
Through my work with the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS), and later as a co-founder of Everly, I spent time with families navigating grief and the decisions that follow. I saw how much it matters to have someone who listens, explains what comes next, and helps you move forward.
But knowing why estate planning matters didn’t make getting my own affairs in order any easier.
I couldn’t find pricing. I couldn’t learn about the process on my own time. And I couldn’t start anything digitally.
As a coach, a father, and a husband, I was trying to fit this around the life I wanted to protect. The more effort it took just to get started, the harder it became to follow through.
That’s the beginning I wanted DeNovo to change. Help families understand the cost, see what’s involved, and take the first step when they have time. Then bring their information and questions to an attorney who can turn that preparation into personal advice.
